Ross McKinney, the owner of Mallorca Gin Distillery, is well-known on the island as a connoisseur of everything to do with the world of gin.
Born and raised in the UK, Ross's passion for distilling began when he realised how it was "just simple chemistry" after studying chemistry at university. With a background in event management, a good amount of chemical know-how and a strong dedication to gin-drinking, Ross combined his business experience with a deep appreciation for the artistry of gin-making.
After years of honing his craft and exploring the different botanical blends, he founded Mallorca Gin Distillery with a mission to create spirits that embody the essence of Mallorca. His aim with the gins that he produces is to make lighter, fresher, and crisper gins with new flavours that everybody can enjoy. From a simple gin and tonic to an elaborate cocktail, Mallorca Gin Distillery's gins are as versatile as they are delicious.
Gin has had a resurgence over the last decade so it is interesting to see how whisky and gin can work alongside each other.
Mallorca Gin Distillery has been operational for over six years and has proved hugely popular with residents and visitors for its innovative approach to gin production. Ross tries where possible to create his gins using locally sourced ingredients and traditional distillation techniques to craft gins of quality and character. From crisp citrus notes to aromatic herbs, each bottle tells a story of Mallorca's landscape and heritage.
A chance encounter in Puerto Portals at the beginning of 2024 led Ross and Murray to forge Mallorca Gin Distillery and WhiskyReligion's partnership and Ross sees the collaboration as a new chapter for the distillery, attracting new people and new concepts and expanding the offering. “Gin has had a resurgence over the last decade so it is interesting to see how whisky and gin can work alongside each other and bring in a completely new audience,” he says.
With Ross at the helm, Mallorca Gin Distillery continues to push the boundaries of gin-making, creating exceptional gins that capture the spirit of Mallorca and with WhiskyReligion on side, Ross has even bigger plans for the future.
